This song is about Elian Gonzalez, I believe that's his name. He was a young refuge from Cuba and the FBI swat and shit broke into his house very early morning and dragged him out at gun point . I can't remember his name really which is sad but I'm close.

I have always been a fan of G.M. beginning when he was part of Wham! He and his close friend since school, Andrew Ridgeley started performing together (I don’t know dates etc and I too tired to look them up 😵). G. M. sang the lead, while Andrew played guitar. They were very successful together. Before George went on to have a successful solo career (encouraged by Andrew to do so…they remained friends) Wham! recorded a Christmas song titled “Last Christmas”. It was upbeat, released in December 1984. Ironically and very sadly George Michael died on Christmas Day 32 years later at the young age of 53 😭😭😭. (Fatty liver disease).

I never ever thought I would find the way I do about George Michael’s version of this song, but I actually prefer his rendition of Somebody To Love over Freddie’s original. The truth is, I never really cared for that song, until I heard G.M. do it at Freddie’s tribute. I know I’m probably going to get ridiculed for my opinion, I already told myself off 😅. I’ve never thought anyone could do a better sound vocally than the original singer. But alas I was wrong ( it happens 🤷🏻‍♀️)

I just went to see Satriani/Vai tour on 4/20. You should go see it if they come by Hawaii. They wont be playing forever...and thats coming sooner than later. But it was an amazing show. Joe Satriani killed it, perfect playing. The "Enter Sandman" cover was legit.

Thanks for the reaction! When us kids of the 70s bang on about the music from our era we often get the bored eye-roll from people who aren’t familiar with it. Thanks to videos like this, a few more from later generations will now understand what it’s about. Legendary bands like Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin laid the foundation for heavy rock (we didn’t call it heavy metal back then, that was a specific genre which followed later.) These original heavy rock bands had a lot more in their toolbox as you can see here, and the virtuoso musicianship is the result of necessity (they had less sophisticated technology to lean on,) hard work (it was a time when people grafted for success rather than expecting it on a plate) and obviously, sheer natural talent.

This is where censorship fails, because people that hear this version and like it buy the album, then hear it uncensored, and get offended. Just let people hear the song as it was written.

Ok. It’s official. You’re forgiven. (Haha). Cuz the look on your face says it all. IMO, Wings for Marie is one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written. Of any genre. It takes you thru every layer of grief… the sadness, the loss, the rage… individually and all at once. Absolutely gorgeous and haunting. If someone is looking for a generic verse, chorus, verse formula (or expecting Slipknot)… Tool is not gonna give it to ya. But if you’re looking for the BEST, most intricate music ever: Tool for the win. 🌀
